Cookie Policy

This policy explains what cookies and local storage are, exactly which items we use on upm.md and how you can control your consent at any time.

The controller that decides how these cookies are used is the NGO ‘Uniunea Producătorilor de Mobilă’ (UPM), IDNO 1012600023553, e-mail contact@upm.md.

What cookies and local storage are

Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. ‘Local storage’ is a similar mechanism in which the browser keeps information directly on your device. Both help the site work correctly, remember preferences (for example the language) and, only with your consent, measure traffic.

How we ask for consent

Cookies and items strictly necessary for the operation and security of the site are active automatically, because the site cannot work without them. For any non-essential item (for example statistics or marketing) we ask for your prior, explicit consent before loading it. This approach follows the ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC (Art. 5(3)) and the GDPR consent standard (Regulation (EU) 2016/679), applicable to EU visitors, as well as the data-protection legislation of the Republic of Moldova (Law no. 133/2011, replaced by Law no. 195/2024 as of 23 August 2026).

The banner shown on your first visit is simple and binary: you choose between two equally prominent buttons — ‘Accept all’ and ‘Essential only’. There are no separately adjustable categories and nothing is pre-selected against you. Currently we use only strictly necessary cookies and items, so both options keep the site fully functional; your choice is remembered for future visits.

What we actually use

Currently we use only the following cookies and storage items:

Name Provider / domain Category Duration Purpose
upm_lang First party (upm.md) — local storage Strictly necessary Persistent (until cleared from the browser) Remembers the chosen language (RO/EN) so pages are displayed correctly.
upm_cookie First party (upm.md) — cookie Strictly necessary 6 months (180 days) Records your cookie choice (all / essential only), so we do not ask you on every visit.
__cf_bm Third party — Cloudflare Strictly necessary (security / anti-spam) About 30 minutes Verifies, through Cloudflare Turnstile, that you are a real person (not a bot) when you submit the contact form.
cf_clearance Third party — Cloudflare Strictly necessary (security) Configurable (default ~30 min; 15–45 min recommended) Set by Cloudflare's protection system (challenge / WAF) after verification, to grant you access without repeated checks.
International transfer: Cloudflare is a US-based provider, so the __cf_bm and cf_clearance cookies involve a transfer of data to the United States.

The Cloudflare cookies are set only when you interact with the contact form and are necessary for security. You can find more details in the Cloudflare Turnstile privacy policy.

Cloudflare is a provider based in the United States; therefore, the Turnstile anti-spam check involves an international transfer of data. You can find details about the safeguards applied to these transfers in the International transfers of the Privacy policy.

Analytics cookies (optional)

We currently do not use any analytics or statistics cookies and we do not track visitor behaviour. If in the future we introduce an analytics tool (for example Google Analytics), it will be loaded only after you give your explicit consent through the banner, and you will be able to withdraw it at any time.

How to withdraw or change your consent

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time, just as easily as you gave it. On any page, click the ‘Setări cookie / Cookie settings’ link in the site footer — this reopens the consent banner and lets you change your choice. In addition, you can manage or delete cookies directly from your browser settings (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, etc.) and block future cookies. Note that disabling strictly necessary cookies may affect how the site works.

If we materially change the cookies we use or the purposes for which we use them, we will update this policy and, where necessary, ask for your consent again. We may also periodically ask you to reconfirm your preferences.
